Questions
Parent questions, answered
Everything families most often ask about Run, Run, Run!and the Count & Do series.
What age is Run, Run, Run! for?
It is written for toddlers ages 0 to 4. Younger babies enjoy the rhythm and the pictures while a grown-up does the moving; two- and three-year-olds join in with the actions and the counting themselves.
Is it a board book?
No. Run, Run, Run! is a paperback. If you are reading with a very young baby who mouths books, you may want to hold it yourself rather than hand it over.
Does the book only teach the word "run"?
No. The book celebrates the running milestone through ten different action verbs. It is 1 joyful journey from Walk to Run: 1. Walk, 2. Jump, 3. Spin, 4. March, 5. Hop, 6. Skip, 7. Dance, 8. Fly, 9. Slide, 10. Run. Each verb is paired with a number, so children count from 1 to 10 as the story moves along.
How does the counting fit in?
Counting is central to how these books work, not an extra. Every action verb arrives attached to a number, so your child counts 1 to 10 across the book without it ever feeling like a separate counting exercise.
What does "Count & Do" actually mean in practice?
Three steps, repeated on every page. Count it: say the number out loud. Sing it: read the words in their natural sing-song rhythm. Move it: do the action together. Then start again, because they will probably ask.
Do I need to be able to sing?
Not at all. The words are written with a steady, repeating rhythm that carries itself, so you can simply chant it if you prefer. What matters to a toddler is the repetition and your enthusiasm, not your pitch.
We are a bilingual or ESL family. Will this work for us?
Yes, and this is one of the audiences the books are built for. Because the meaning is carried by movement and melody rather than by complicated sentences, a child can see the action, hear the word, and connect the two without needing a translation in between. Children new to English often pick up all ten verbs after only a few times through.
Is this a series, or just one book?
Run, Run, Run! is part of the Count & Do series, an ongoing series. Each book takes a single joyful journey and builds it out of action verbs paired with the numbers 1 to 10.
Who wrote it?
Jodi Schwartz. The series began when she was trying to teach her own young daughter movement words - it turned into a rhyme, then a song, then a book. You can read the full story on the About page.
Where can I buy it?
Run, Run, Run! is available on Amazon. The paperback ISBN is 978-1-80704-092-5.
